This procedure involves either the augmentation or the reduction of the vulvar labia or the reduction of the vaginal width that may be altered during labour. Depending on the case, the procedure is performed with local anaesthesia or sedation and the aim is to deliver a natural result. Particular attention is given to the area of the clitoris and the urethra to avoid excessive correction.
The procedure helps women regain their self-confidence and improve their everyday life and sex life. The area’s sensitivity is not affected. The patient may resume her daily activities after one week while she may return to sexual activities after 4 weeks.
How is the procedure performed?
Special Laser or radio-wave equipment is used to remove excess tissue and rejuvenate the tissue to be preserved. Dissolvable fine sutures are used to bring skin together. The scar that forms after the incision is practically invisible. The procedure may last from 1 to 2 hours and is performed under general or local anaesthesia. The procedure is performed in our Centre’s organised operating room or in a specially equipped clinic. Pain is minimum during the procedure while during the following 2-3 days pain is mild and managed with painkillers.
What is the situation during recovery time?
As with all surgical procedures a certain amount of time is necessary before results are seen. The patient should expect light bleeding during the first 24 hours. Bed rest is advised for the first day. Depending on the extent of the procedure the patient should be able to return to work within 2 to 4 days. Refraining from sexual activity is mandatory for as long as the doctor advises. The usual time for full recovery is 4-6 weeks. It should be noted that resting is of significant importance for faster recovery. The result of the surgery is permanent.
